Code of Conduct
Preamble
Fitness
service providers shall recognize that professional ethics are founded upon
integrity, competence, devotion to service and to the advancement of human
welfare. This concept shall guide their conduct at all times. In this way,
each professional's actions will enhance the dignity and status of the
profession.
Fitness service providers, through their practice, are
charged with extending public understanding of the profession and should
serve in public affairs when their professional knowledge may be of benefit
to the public.
Fitness service providers will build their reputation on
the basis of merit of the services performed or offered and shall not compete
unfairly with others or compete primarily on the basis of fees without due
consideration of other factors.
Fitness service providers, who have apprentice leaders
under their supervision, will maintain a special obligation to demonstrate
understanding, professionalism and technical expertise. Fitness service
providers will conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively in the
field of active living.
Definitions
Fitness New Brunswick
Fitness Service Provider: A person who provides
fitness services and is currently certified to do so under the requirements
determined by Fitness New Brunswick.
Client: A person or persons toward whom a fitness
service provider directs their services.
Employer: A club, organization, private company or
individual who engages the services of a fitness service provider.
Code of Conduct

Fitness service providers shall consider the client's best
interest with respect to health and safety as the first concern and shall be
sensitive to their perceived position.

Fitness service providers shall undertake only work they
are competent to perform by virtue of their training and experience and shall
express opinions on matters relating to their scope of practice only on the
basis of adequate knowledge and honest conviction. When information requested
or duties assigned are beyond their realm of knowledge or skill, fitness
service providers shall make every effort to refer the client or employer to
an alternate source.

Fitness service providers shall sign and/or seal only
programs, reports, or documents that they have prepared or that they have
directly supervised and controlled throughout their
preparation.
Fitness service providers shall accord all individuals a
reasonable level of respect, understanding and compassion in their
professional practice and shall treat members of the public and one another
fairly to ensure freedom from discrimination and harassment.
Fitness service providers shall conduct themselves toward
other fitness service providers, employees and all others with fairness and
good faith.
Fitness service providers shall not engage in activities
or accept remuneration for services rendered that may cause a conflict of
interest with their clients, peers, or employers, without the knowledge and
consent of their peers, clients and employers.
Fitness service providers shall respect the privacy,
dignity and personal modesty of others and shall not disclose confidential
information without the written consent of their clients, peers, and
employers.
Fitness service providers shall not offer or accept any
covert payment for the purposes of securing any work or assignments.
Fitness service providers shall represent their
qualifications and competence, or advertise professional services offered,
only through factual representation without exaggeration.
Fitness service providers shall advise the certifying body
of any practice by a member of the Association that they believe to be
contrary to this Code of Conduct.
