Fitness NB Course Conductor Requirements

Fitness Theory Course Conductor

Definitions

1.      A Fitness NB course conductor is someone who develops fitness leaders through sharing, teaching, and facilitating the
         designated course material as outlined by NFLA and Fitness NB.
2.      Course conductor and trainer are used interchangeably.

To ensure quality leadership programs, Fitness NB must require that  certified trainers meet and maintain a high level of knowledge and training so that the Fitness NB certifications remain credible in the fitness and active living community in New Brunswick and across the nation.

Pre-requisites

1.      Apply to Fitness NB for acceptance into the Training for Trainers or as recognition as a Fitness NB Course Conductor.
2.      Must hold a current Fitness NB certification.
3.      Successful completion of University Degree (Phys. Ed., Kinesiology, BSc with Kinesiology etc.) with course work in the
         following areas:

  • human anatomy
  • biomechanics
  • human physiology
  • exercise physiology

(Please note: Individuals with similar course work from other areas (ie. Colleges, massage therapy etc.) may apply to the Board of Directors for recognition of completion of the above course requirements.)

4.      100% participation in the Fitness NB Training for Trainers.**
5.      Minimum of 5 years experience in the fitness field.
6.      Applicant must be a Fitness NB member in good standing.
7.      Current CPR.
8.      Course conductor must facilitate portions of a course before facilitating an entire course prior to be listed as a Fitness NB
        
full course conductor. This will apply to all course conductors (GFL, OAFL. etc). Full recognition as a Fitness NB Course
         Conductor will depend on a successful evaluation during the required co-facilitation.


Specialty Module Course Conductor

Pre-requisites

1.      Apply to Fitness NB for acceptance into the Training for Trainers** or as recognition as a Fitness NB Course Conductor.
2.      Must hold a current Fitness NB specialty certification in the desired training module.
3.      100% participation in the Fitness NB Training for Trainers.**
4.      Minimum of 5 years experience in the fitness field specifically related to the specialty module (with supporting
         documentation).
5.      Applicant must be a Fitness NB member in good standing.
6.      Current CPR.
7.      Course conductor must facilitate portions of a course before facilitating an entire course prior to be listed as a Fitness NB
        
full course conductor. This will apply to all course conductors (GFL, OAFL. etc). Full recognition as a Fitness NBCourse
         Conductor will depend on a successful evaluation during the required co-facilitation.

**Upon applying for acceptance to the Training for Trainers the Board of Directors may decide that an individual may be "grandfathered" in as a specialty course conductor if the individual holds all of the above mentioned pre-requisites, and a diploma in a related field or successful completion of a "Training for Trainers" from another recognized organization (ie. YMCA, YWCA).


Re-certification Requirements for Fitness Theory and Specialty Module Course Conductors

1.      Maintain Fitness NB membership on an annual basis.
2.      Maintain current CPR on an annual basis.
3.      Collect 30 CEC’s over a two year period (beginning from course conductor certification date).
4.      Teach a minimum of 25% of a Basic Fitness Theory Course at least once every two years.
5.      Attend a MANDATORY annual professional development day sponsored by Fitness NB.
6.      Maintain specialty certification.
